Larry and I played little league baseball on the Yankees, and yes when we were 12 years old we won the championship. His father, Sam, was our manager and my father, Woodie, was our coach. That same year we played pop warner football together on the Crusaders (along with Gary Fulton and Danny Kling). Yep, we won the championship that year as well. Love that guy, he was fun to be around.

My old bud, Larry. One of the greatest guys I ever knew. I could tell a hundred stories. One time in our elementary years, we cut school and ran from a man we thought was the truant officer. Another time in high school we got into the liquor cabinet during his parents’ absence, stole the station wagon and went squealing around the neighborhood. I’ve never laughed that hard. Another time, just out of high school, we were fishing up on the Kern River. A young girl about 12 came floating by, free-falling with the current, yelling for help, Larry saw her, dropped his fishing pole, kicked off his shoes, and dove in after her. He swam to her and drug her to shore. The whole thing transpired in the blink of an eye. Larry was a great athlete. As s baseball player, in his junior year of high school he hit .438 and was first team all Pioneer League. Many years later he became an expert bowler and threw a number of 300 games. I often thought of him over the years
