I will always remember his amazing memory for all the students he counseled.  His encouragement , caring heart and genuine interest in everyone he met brightened everyone’s day.

I always looked forward to talking with him at our high school reunions.

Such a personable guy and so easy to relate to. He touched so many lives and his dedication to Torrance High students, family & friends will be dearly remembered. In the arms of the angels now. Rest easy Jerry.

I am glad I was able to write a note to Mr. Ronan before he passed.  He was a truly good man.  It was good to see him at our 50th Reunion.  I shall long remember him.

I shall never forget you as a remarkable Gentleman. Your sensitivity, fairness, and belief in the potential of the young were unique, demonstrating a profound belief in our latent talents. I am thankful that I had a chance to speak (so to say) with you during the past eighteen months in our e-mails. It was rewarding to me that you enjoyed the fanciful tales I related. I must confess sincere regret for not knowing you better and sooner. Rest well, Mister Ronan.

My first memory of Mr. Ronan was in summer school typing class in 1961 even before I was a freshman where he was the teacher and I was trying to learn how to navigate my recently acquired Royal manual typewriter, a gift from my parents for having just graduated from Madrona 8th grade. I didn't know that the short man teaching the class was to become my class counselor for the next four years. None of us knew at that time how important keyboard skills would be in the decades that followed when computer monitors would replace sheets of paper and our brains learned how to convert abstract thoughts directly into Word docs and emails.

I didn't have a lot of interaction with Mr. Ronan during my time at THS, mainly because I managed to stay out of trouble and, being a band nerd, I had little time outside of the band hall during and after school. We had three different band directors during my four years there, but he was the one constant influence on me at school and I did get to know him at some class activities and events. In particular, I recall his guidance for our senior committee charged to select a painting too hang in the auditorium foyer. My time at Torrance High was happy and I made some good friends, although my family moved just after I graduated so I lost track of my classmates.

Godspeed Mr. Ronan

Ron Yates, Dallas
