In Memory

Richard Broos

Richard Broos

A man among men, a veteran who served his country without complaint, an amazing father, husband, son and brother, Richard O. Broos has departed this earth to become a member of heaven’s race team. Born in Long Beach in 1947 to Samuel and Doris Broos, Richard grew up in Torrance, California and graduated from Torrance High School in 1965. In 1967, he was drafted into the US Army, Big Red One Division, and served in Vietnam as Point Man for his unit.

He is survived by his son Richard W. Broos (Lindsay), his sister Donna Broos Grayson (Paul) and his three beautiful grandchildren Cody, Caroline and Levi. His beloved wife Donna, preceded him in death in 2008 and he was especially blessed to have a special companion in his life, Anita Gonzales.

Working for the City of Hemet for over 25 years, he led the Public Works department and built strong relationships within the City. He retired in 2008 and found many interests, but most especially sitting in his beach chair in Mexico and enjoying the ocean. He was mechanically gifted and enjoyed working on hot rods from top alcohol funny cars to his prized Nova and “DUBSRYD”. The highlight of his life was racing.

How do you replace someone that seemed legendary, unique and who always followed his own drum? His heart was big, he just didn’t want anyone to know it.

Memorial Service will be private with an open house to follow at his residence, 41321 Rainbow Court Hemet, CA. 92544 at 12:00 PM

I remember the times in high school riding around in Richards World War II Dodge power wagon. One weekend he and I took it out to the desert near Calico California, ended up with a flat tire, no spare and had to roll the flat tire and wheel down the canyon two or 3 miles to a service station and had the flat fixed.  Rolled tire back to the truck, then continued our adventure !

Godspeed my old friend,
